The Medulla Nebula, also known as CTB 1, Abell 85, or LBN 576, is an incredible supernova remnant located in the stunning constellation of Cassiopeia! Capturing CTB1 is no easy feat due to its faintness; without a narrowband filter, it’s practically invisible! Its captivating deep red hue comes from light emitted by hydrogen atoms (Ha), while a mesmerizing blue-green glow from oxygen atoms (OIII) adds to its allure.

I embarked on this reprocessing journey to blend SII data into my previous HOO image and swap out the HA stars for synthetic RGB stars.

Data gathered from 8 sessions between 2022-11-12 and 2023-01-04.
Data for this image: 82x300s S-II, 84x300s Ha, 73x300s O-III.
Total number of exposures 239 with a total integration time of 20 hours.
Processing: PixInsight with ForaxX palette with synthetic RGB stars.
Equipment: SkyWatcher EvoStar 80ED Pro (0,85x FR/FF) and ZWO ASI294MM Pro on SkyWatcher HEQ5 Pro with SkyWatcher EvoGuide 50ED and ZWO ASI120MM Mini. ZWO SII, Ha, and OIII filters.
Location: 63 degrees north with a bortle 4 sky.
